Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a private conservation area bordering Tsavo West National Park. It features rolling plains, woodland, rocky hills and waterholes that attract elephants, buffaloes, lions, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and rich birdlife.
Salt Lick Safari Lodge is famous for its elevated rooms and walkways overlooking a busy waterhole. Guests can watch elephants, buffaloes and other animals from the lodge, viewing decks and an underground observation tunnel.
The sanctuary’s waterholes provide excellent opportunities to observe elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators, especially during drier periods. Wildlife may be viewed during game drives and directly from selected lodge areas.
Popular activities include morning and afternoon game drives, night game drives where permitted, birdwatching, photography, waterhole viewing, guided nature experiences and visits to scenic sanctuary viewpoints.
Taita Hills and Salt Lick can be visited throughout the year. Drier months often concentrate wildlife around waterholes, while greener months offer lush scenery, dramatic skies and excellent birdlife.
